In January 2014, the District of Columbia Arts Center will officially celebrate its 25th anniversary. To mark milestone, DCAC and No Kings Collective are collaborating for fundraising exhibition and online campaign inspired by and supporting DCAC’s long history of fostering artists and the emerging arts community—artists helping artists.
The project boasts a roster of 25 emerging to established artists, including several DCAC alumni. Interviews are posted daily to countdown to the fundraising exhibition, in which each participating artist was asked to donate a single piece of work. By asking non-standard questions, we opened a dialogue similar to what artists have in the studio — extended small talk — in order to reveal what makes these artists tick.
THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA ARTS CENTER (DCAC) serves the Washington, DC area by presenting high-caliber, challenging works, encouraging professionalism among artists, and by providing a forum for education and cultural exchange. DCAC was founded in 1989 as an alternative arts center for local artists in response to eroding support for local artists.
